    The wifi-enabled Riverside Guesthouse Bukit Lawang is owned and operated by Fadill and Marie Azuan, an Indonesian-French couple. A nature lover and resident of Bukit Lawang for 15+ years, Fadil opened the Riverside Guesthouse with Marie after years of experience operating well-reviewed guesthouses in the region.

    Marie, formerly an English teacher in France, settled down in Bukit Lawang in 2009. Her keen interest in traveling, people, and cultures makes her a welcoming host along with Fadill.

  • Elephant Tours Bath & take a ride along

    Take a tour to the village of Tangkahan where you can give the elephants their bath and take an hour ride along while you discover the jungle of Tangkahan.

    Price: 120 euros per person, all inclusive – car, driver, petrol, guide, permit to National Park, 1-hour elephant trek, elephant bathing, and lunch.

    Or all of the same without the trekking for 70 Euros per person.

  • Tube Rafting Tube downstream with a Captain

    Enjoy the scenery while you take a safe, but exhilirating Captain-steered tube ride down to a nearby village trusty. Price: 10 euros per person, which includes the tube and a captain concierge.

    Or opt for a longer tube ride to Bohorok village, some 10 kilometers away. You will sit back and relax for this 2.5 hour trip as you discover “kampung life” and see how important the river is for locals! The return from this aquatic adventure will be by local bus. Price: 20 euros per person, which includes tubes, 2 captains & public transport back to Bukit Lawang.

    Bukit Lawang is situated near Medan, Indonesia, which is just a short hop from Jakarta or Kuala Lumpur.

    We can arrange transport to and from Kuala Namu, Medan’s new airport, and we can help you with your onward journey as well. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you wish to book a private car with us. The local car company we work with provides aircon cars. The prices given below are for one way.

Treks

3-Hour Trek
Take a tour with a certified, English-speaking guide from the Indonesian Tourist Guide Association (ITGA). All prices adhere to guidelines from the ITGA.

You will start this short trek after breakfast, around 8:30am. Your guide will take you on a three-hour walk into the Gunung Leuser National Park. You will most certainly be able to spot semi-wild orangutans, macaques, Thomas Leaf Monkeys, gibbons…and you will get a glimpse of our beautiful jungle. You will come back around lunch time. You can opt to walk back to the guesthouse or to return by tube rafting down the river.

PRICE : 35 euros per person, includes permit to National Park, camera permit, guide.

If you want to stop at the feeding platform before starting the trek, we can also make this arrangement for you. Your guide will pick you up at the guesthouse after breakfast, at 8:15am and you’ll head to the feeding platform first. You’ll spend an hour there observing the semi-wild orangutans, sometimes joined by long-tail and short-tail macaques, who wait at the bottom of the trees, hoping their “friends” will drop a few bananas!
You will then continue into the jungle for a three-hour trek.

PRICE : Add 150 000 IDR per person, which you will pay directly with the rangers.

1-Day Trek
Take a tour with a certified, English-speaking guide from the Indonesian Tourist Guide Association (ITGA). All prices adhere to guidelines from the ITGA.

Your guide will pick you up after breakfast, at 8:30am and will have you discover the beauty of the National Park. You will walk for 6-7 hours in the rainforest, taking breaks every now and then to try and spot orangutans, gibbons, peacocks (Great Argus Pheasants), hornbills, monitor lizards…all in their natural habitat.

You will get to see how diverse the wildlife is. Your guide will provide you with lots of information on the fauna and flora.

The guides we work with take care of you and adjust to your pace, thus making this trek accomodatingfor all – children, grown-ups, elderly, and others.

You can choose to walk back to the guesthouse at the end of the day or you may prefer to come back tube-rafting and enjoy riding on this fun yet safe “jungle-taxi”!

PRICE : 45euros per person, includes permit to National Park, camera permit, guide and assistant, fruit snack and lunch.

+ 10 euros per person for tube-rafting (life-jackets provided if necessary)

2-Day Trek

Take a tour with a certified, English-speaking guide from the Indonesian Tourist Guide Association (ITGA). All prices adhere to guidelines from the ITGA.

This trek will allow you to spend a night in the jungle! You will start after breakfast on day 1 and walk for 6-7 hours taking regular breaks. You will arrive at your camp around 4pm. You will be able to go swimming in the river and relax after having walked uphill and downhill all day! You will then enjoy a delicious dinner by the fire camp.

You will trek some more on the morning of the second day and you might stop at a waterfall and go swimming as well as enjoy the scenery.
You will come back to the guesthouse in the afternoon by tube-rafting.

PRICE: 80 euros per person, includes permit to National Park, camera permit, guide and assistants, fruit snacks, meals, one night in the jungle. 3 people minimum. We can arrange for you to join other guests if you are less than three.

+ 10 euros per person for tube-rafting.

3-Day Trek
Take a tour with a certified, English-speaking guide from the Indonesian Tourist Guide Association (ITGA). All prices adhere to guidelines from the ITGA.

If you wish to go deeper into the rainforest, this trek is for you ! You might be lucky and see wild orangutans as you’ll walk further in the jungle. On day 3, you will either want to trek some more or decide that you have deserved a rest and can instead take advantage of the river and go for a refreshing swim!

On this trek, you will spend two nights in the jungle, a great opportunity to observe night life..
You will come back on day 3 by tube-rafting down the river.

PRICE: 110 euros per person, included permit to National Park, camera permit, guide and assistants, fruit snacks, all meals, two nights in the jungle.

+ 10 euros per person rafting back.

Please note that you need to be physically fit for this trek. Minimum 3 people. We can arrange for you to join other guests if you are less than three.

Other Activities

Village tour
With this half-day tour, you will get to discover the villages around Bukit Lawang and see how the locals live. You’ll will go around on a becak, local transport, and stop along the way to see how brown sugar is processed, how the locals collect rubber, how they use bamboo to make the roofs and the walls of their traditional houses. You’ll will take a walk in the rice fields and learn how it is planted and harvested. You’ll will stop for a refreshing coconut drink before heading back to Bukit Lawang.

PRICE : 20 euros per person, included becak, driver, petrol, guide. Minimum 2 people.

Bat cave
Along with your guide, you will set on a nice leisurely walk to this a nearby bat cave, some three kilometers away from the guesthouse. Your guide will lead you through the three “natural rooms” of these nocturnal mammals so you can observe this rare and threatened species in their natural habitats!

PRICE : 10 euros per person, included guide, entrance fee and torch lights.

Village tour + bat cave
This one-day tour combines the half-day becak tour and the walk to the bat cave.
After having spent the morning going around Bukit Lawang and discovering the locals’way of life, you will stop for a nice lunch. After lunch, you will go for an afternoon walk to the bat cave and then head back to the guesthouse.

PRICE : 25 euros per person, included becak, driver, guide, lunch, entrance fee to Bat Cave. Minimum 2 people.

Market
Please note that we will stop at the market in Bukit Lawang on Fridays and in Bohorok on Sundays so you have the opportunity to see more of the local life.
